I am a tapestry/needlepoint artist based in Sydney, Australia. Since the age of 13 I have enjoyed working with wool and experiencing its warm, tactile nature as a piece grows.
I believe my work challenges widely-held traditional perceptions of tapestry as quaint, domestic and conservative, to portray artworks that present the medium in a new, contemporary and bold light. I perceive my style of tapestry stitching as part of an artistic movement, as my technique of applying wool to a needlepoint canvas has parallels to the way in which an artist applies paint to an art canvas.
A degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of New South Wales introduced me to the intricacies of flora, a subject explored in depth in my early work. In recent years, my overseas travels-particularly to Morocco-have inspired my designs.
I have been invited to exhibit at the Chelsea Flower Show, London, and I am a designer for Ehrman Tapestry, London, one of the most successful international needlepoint companies worldwide. You can see one of my designs available in kit form on the Ehrman Tapestry website here.
