Casablanca – large
150 x 95cm (59 x 37")
Pure wool on 12 count canvas

In the Moroccan city of Casablanca stands the imposing and impressive Hassan II Mosque, also known as the Grand Mosque, completed relatively recently in 1993.  This tapestry is inspired by the extensive and impressive mosaic tile work (also known as ‘zellige’) that is seen at a well visited public fountain in the public courtyard in the outdoor area surrounding the mosque.  The tapestry picks up on the imperfect tiles and their irregular shades of colour as they have been exposed to the sun and wind over the years.
