White frame. Ready to hang.
This 2.5m long tapestry draws on extensive and elaborately decorated Moroccan mosaic tiles (also known as ‘zillij’) at the Saadian Tombs in Marrakech – the site of the former resting place of Moroccan royalty, dating back to the 16th century. It highlights the impressive geometric and calligraphic designs seen throughout this ancient site, inviting the viewer to contemplate how intricate shading created with stitched wool can represent an ageing tile that dates back centuries. The proportions of this tapestry reflect the expanse of mosaic tile work found at this site.
