Yellow Door
34 x 42cm (13 x 17”)
Pure wool on 16 count canvas

White frame. Ready to hang.

This tapestry represents a doorway at one of Morocco’s most important sites; the Mausoleum of Sultan Moulay Ismail, who made Meknes his imperial capital in the 17th century. This ‘petit point’ tapestry was created using fine stitches on a fine canvas to highlight the key architectural features of this doorway: its Moorish arched doorway, intricate tile work and symmetry form. Careful blending of a range of shades of buttercup yellow wool are used to show how this ancient site is bathed in light from all angles.
