sale

‘Chok’ for release 1 August 2025. Pre-order now.

‘Ghorzah’ is the Arabic word for stitch. ‘Chok’ is the Uzbek word for stitch.

In these two books you will follow my journey over the past decade as I’ve travelled to Morocco, UAE and Uzbekistan in search of beautiful decorative Islamic tiles and my method of translating them into needlepoint art.

Ghorzah, published in 2021, was my first book, followed by Chok, published in 2025, which focuses on 9 significant sites in Uzbekistan. You also meet more than 60 people who contributed to a vibrant community project in Australia. Each book contains 106 semi-gloss pages, 90+ full colour images, historical information and a practical needlepoint project with full instructions and starter guide. It has a thick soft glossy cover.

Published 2021 and 2025

Needlepoint work in progress.

This design is inspired by a beautiful decorative tiled panel at the entrance to Abd-al Aziz Khan Madrassa (1652): a beautiful unrestored madrassa (college for students) in the heart of Bukhara’s old town, Uzbeki
Needlepoint ‘Iris in the Wind’ now framed and hanging in its new home- that of an Iris enthusiast in Blackheath, NSW. I used Appleton crewel wool from @morrisandsons on 12 count needlepoint canvas.

Finished size 82 x 60cm.
